Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

CKMP can accommodate a maximum of 20 guests at a time.

There are 3 typical days at CKMP:

  1. ARRIVAL DAY: Please arrive between 2 pm and 5:30 pm. Dinner will be served at 6:30 pm. On arrival day, we always try to get the paperwork out of the way so you’re not wasting time the following morning completing it when you could be out shredding.
  2. RIDING DAY (S): We ride!!! Breakfast is served at 7:30 am. Afterward, you’ll get your gear on and either hop in one of our trucks or follow us in your vehicle to the trailhead. You will spend the next 6–8 hours discovering breathtaking views and riding alpine bowls, long chutes, and epic terrain.
  3. DEPARTURE DAY: Most of our guests ride on departure day. If you do ride, please take all your belongings out of your room before you hit the slopes so our lovely staff can clean and prepare it for the next set of guests. Before departing, please remember to stop by the office, pay your final invoice, and return any items you may have borrowed from us.

CKMP opens near the end of November for Motorized Avalanche Safety Training. If you’d like to come stay and ride with us, dates are available to book anytime after December 17.

We close for the season on April 10.

Peak Season runs from January 5 to March 20. Off-Peak Season runs from December 15 to January 4 and from March 21 to April 10.

CKMP offers several different ones; please find the details of each below:

  1. Motorized Avalanche Safety Training: CKMP partners with Soul Rides each November to provide training and certification for M.A.S.T 1 and M.A.S.T 2.
  2. Learn to Lead: This clinic is for intermediate-to-advanced female riders who are looking to advance their skill set.
  3. Ladies’ Ride: This ladies’ camp is a fundraising event held annually on the second Saturday of February. Every year, 40–70 ladies are split into groups based on skill set and spend the day riding Owlhead, led by CKMP guides. A hot lunch is provided on the mountain to everyone who attends. All proceeds are donated to Sled Sicamous.

Carl Kuster Mountain Park (CKMP) is the ultimate backcountry snowmobiling adventure. Nestled in the Monashee Mountains of British Columbia, CKMP offers an all-inclusive, world-class experience designed for passionate riders who crave deep powder, expert guidance, top of the line snowmobiles, and luxury accommodations.

Accommodation & Amenities

A red-seal chef creates all CKMP meals. For breakfast, we serve a variety of items, including waffles, pancakes, French toast, eggs, local sausages, AAA Alberta back bacon, and several unique styles of hash browns. You can expect a deliciously crafted soup and sandwich combo and a vast range of snack items for lunch. A three-course dinner is served each evening using fresh, local ingredients.

All allergies and dietary requirements are taken seriously at CKMP. When registering for the trip you will be asked to provide any allergies, dietary restrictions, or food-related preferences. It’s important to be honest; if you hate lamb and will not eat it, please tell us when you fill in the online form.

CKMP has two locations within 100 feet of each other where we house guests. Below are the details of each:

  1. The LOFT can accommodate 12 guests. It has six rooms, each with two queen beds and a 3-piece bathroom.

Gear

Ninety percent of our guests bring their own gear, but we do have gear available to rent.

A 3-layer system (base layer, mid-layer, and outer layer) is what we recommend. The key items to bring are:

  • Outer layer: Weatherproof jacket and pants or onesie *Insulated jackets and pants are far too warm for our riding conditions
  • Base layer: We recommend Merino wool undergarments as they provide the best balance of warmth and comfort while wicking sweat off your body
  • Mid-layer: We recommend a packable down jacket
  • Waterproof boots: Snowmobile or snowboard boots
  • Helmet: Motocross style
  • Goggles: We recommended bringing two pairs of duel lens goggles
  • Gloves: We recommend bringing two pairs of waterproof gloves

Yes, we rent mono suites, two-piece suits, helmets, and boots. All items are $15 each per day. We do not rent goggles or gloves, but we do offer a wide variety for purchase.

CKMP stocks Ski-Doo gloves, goggles, and base layers. We usually have a handful of suits for sale. If you would like to pre-order anything from the Ski-Doo catalogue, please contact admin@carlkuster.com.

Yes, tunnel bags can be rented for $10 per day.

You should bring a bathing suit, inside shoes or slippers, and any personal items or toiletries you will need during the duration of your stay.

Yes, you will need to register online for your trip. The information you provide during this process is essential for our staff to know prior to your arrival.

Booking

Please click the “BOOK NOW” button on the main page and fill out the Booking Inquiry Form.

For additional inquiries, contact Kayla at:

All the details of CKMP’s booking policy can be found here.

Trips are non-refundable unless trip cancelation insurance is purchased.

Because we are only open four months of the year, and our capacity is limited, we operate on a first come, first served basis. Although not always possible, we try our best to give you at least one week to decide if you would like to book before offering the same set of dates to another group.

After October 1, all packages must be paid in full when booking. Before this, a 50% deposit is required to secure your spot.

We have several options for paying for a trip. The most common is for us to send you a link with instructions on completing the payment and registration process online. For corporate bookings, we prefer wire transfer (EFT), but we could also take the payment over the phone or email you an invoice that you can pay through. CKMP accepts Visa, Mastercard, Visa Debit, prepaid credit cards, EFTs, E-Transfers, and checks.

CKMP offers a payment plan for any trip booked before October 1. The initial payment is 50% and is required when booking. The remaining 50% is due October 1. All packages after October 1 must be paid in full when booking.

Yes, you can book solo but you will be paired up with another group to ride with based on your riding ability. If you book as a solo rider or an odd-number group, there is a chance that you will be paired up with another individual.

To receive the dates of your choosing, it is always better to book as far in advance as possible; we will accommodate any booking up to two years in advance.

If you need to rent a sled from CKMP you need to be at least 16 years old, hold a valid driver’s license, and be accompanied by a guardian.

  • Bring your own sled.

With all packages, you arrive the afternoon before your first day of riding and you depart after returning from your last day of riding.

  • 2025 Summit X 165
  • All fuel and oil.
  • Daily guided instructional snowmobile tour.
  • Highmark avalanche bag, equipped with a shovel, probe, transceiver, radio and mic.

  • Airfare or any travel expenses that occur pertaining to your arrival at CKMP or your departure from CKMP
  • Guide and staff gratuities are not included in the package price. Your final invoice will include a $30 CAD a day auto gratuity as well as 15% gratuity on all drinks. This gratuity is for the LOFT staff and does not include tip out for Guides. Guides prefer cash tips, but we also accept Visa, Mastercard, and E-transfers
  • Sled Insurance can be purchased for $40 CAD per day. It covers any damages over $3000 CAD.

Included with all sled rental packages is a snowmobile rental and all fuel and oil.

No, gratuities are not included in the package price; however, we will put an auto gratuity on every customer’s final invoice. This auto gratuity ($30/day) gets split between the cooks, cleaners, servers, mechanics and gas jockeys. Guide gratuity is not included—it is customary to tip your guides. The preferred method is to give them cash, or it can be added to your bill when you checkout.

On average most guests tip their guide between $30 to $50 per day.

Payments for any incidentals that incur during the duration of your stay, i.e., beverages, retail purchases, sled damage, turbo upgrade, sled insurance, etc.

Yes, if you’re renting a sled from us we offer sled insurance for CAD 40 per day. This policy only covers damages OVER CAD 3000. Any damage UNDER CAD 3000, the guest is responsible for. Please note the insurance only covers YOUR rental sled. It DOES NOT cover any other sleds involved in the accident or helicopter transport of you or your sled. Snowmobile Insurance can be purchased online when you register or on-site before your first day of riding.

Riding Here

CKMP’s guide to guest ratio is 7 to 1. If you aren’t advanced riders and your group is more than 8 then we will always send out a Lead Guide and a Tail Guide with your group.

You will always ride with the people you came with. If you came with only one, two or three other people then you will most likely will be paired up with another group of the same riding ability. If you or someone doesn’t have the same skill set as the rest of the group please let us know and we can see if they could be paired up with a more suited group.

A typical day riding is 6.5 hours starting at 9 am and ending at 3:30 pm.

The 2024/2025 guides are Carl Kuster, Jason Ribi, Shelley Ferguson, Donnie Jenkins, Dennis Paton, Tyson Dales, Jonny Verhel, Cody Schmidt, Sam King, Mytch Blight, and Blake Punchard. Meet all the guides on our about page.

Carl does ride with guests from time to time but it is not guaranteed that he will ride with your group. You can expect to see him roaming around shop wrenching on sleds.

Yes, pricing for guiding is based on group size. See below for more info:

  • 1 guide for groups of 1-5: $800 + tax
  • 1 guide for groups of 6-7: $900 + tax
  • 2 guides for groups of 7-12: $1200.00 + tax

Yes, the price will depend on the number of riders in your group.

Yes, you can request your guides; any requests should be made when you fill in the online registration form. CKMP schedules the shifts for guiding staff well in advance, therefore, we can not guarantee your request.

It is possible depending on snow conditions. Typically we trailer the sleds to various trailheads or staging areas within 5 to 20 min from CKMP. For more information on riding areas, check out www.sledsicamous.com for grooming reports.

Snowmobiling can be a demanding physical activity. The terrain and snow conditions can challenge even the most skilled and in-shape rider. Getting stuck, digging yourself out, and just generally riding the snowmobiles require a lot of energy. A regular fitness routine with cardio and leg and arm strengthening exercises is a good start to snowmobile fitness.

Terrain

CKMP rides zones between Sicamous and Revelstoke, in BC’s Monashee Mountain Range. Base camp elevation is 1200 ft and the tree riding starts at 4500 ft with rideable terrain up to 10,000 ft. We are fortunate to have a very wide expanse of terrain for all abilities.

CKMP has access to over 100,000 acres of terrain.

Snowmobiles

Our Rental Sleds

CKMP purchases a new fleet of sleds each November. Our fleet consists of the Ski-Doo Summit X and the Ski-doo Summit X 850 TURBO.

All our sleds are 165”.

You can upgrade to an 850 TURBO for an additional CAD 195.00 per day. Limited quantities are available, so please reserve it when you register online.

No, but if you are tall we can put risers on it to make it more comfortable for you. Any other modifications will need to be approved by management.

If you did not purchase snowmobile insurance you are responsible for covering 100% of the cost for all parts and labour needed to return the sled to the same condition it was in before the damages occurred.

Yes, we sell in-house snowmobile insurance for $40 CAD per day.

CMKP will cover any amount above $3000 CAD. You will be responsible to cover any cost from $0.00 to $3000. This insurance only applies to the sled you are riding. It does not cover the cost of any other sled involved in the accident. It also does not cover the cost of helicopter transport for any individual or for any sled.

CKMP uses Record360 software to track existing damages. Eighteen pre-trip photos were taken of the sled and reviewed with each customer during the sled assignment. Additional photos can be added at the customer’s request. After you sign off on the current condition of the sled, Record360 will email you a copy of this report. Damage during your trip is logged with photos and any work orders for repairs performed will be emailed to you. On the last day of riding the CKMP mechanics will check over the sled you rode and make you aware of any new damages.

Yes, you will have the option to purchase it on-site after you arrive when you are signing the liability waivers.

Bringing Your Sled

No, our mechanics’ tools are their personal equipment. However, we will make every effort to help you have your sled ready to be on the mountain the next day. CKMP’s shop rate is per hour.

We don’t sell parts to the general public.

Yes, we sell premium fuel and oil on-site.

Safety

No, included with every package is a Highmark Snowpulse Avalanche pack equipped with a probe, shovel, Mammut Barryvox Transceiver, and a radio.  Because CKMP has its own repeater channel, we suggest always using our radios so you can communicate with our guides and contact base in the case of an emergency.

To guide at CKMP, you must hold a valid Canadian Mortorized Backcountry Guiding Certificate, a valid 90-hour Wilderness First Aid Certificate, and you must have completed both Motorized Avalanche Safety Training Course 1 and Motorized Avalanche Safety Training Course 2.

Weather

The average daily temperature during the winter ranges from -2ºC (28ºF) to -12ºC (10ºF).

The valley between Revelstoke and Sicamous typically receives 500 inches (12 meters) of snow each year. Due to the mild weather and consistent climate, we have renowned powder conditions all season long.
